Maiden First XI 5 Wicket Haul for Charlie

06 Sep 2017

Question marks were raised at the toss (or not) when the Woodford Wells captain admitted to having a weak side and even asked for a twenty-twenty, the idea was swiftly put to bed as Rory insisted that they bat first.

What we saw next was surprising to say the least. All chances of a score were on their captain who came out playing his shots, but it wasn't long until he was held out. This set the tone for their innings really, despite a little resistance from their late middle order.  Charlie tore through their defences with ease, seeing him take his maiden First XI five wicket haul in the process, finishing with figures of 5-5 in his 8 overs. He was ably supported by the other bowlers with Fitzy, and Jacob picking up one wicket each, and Jason finishing them off with two of his own. Woodford ended 52 all out, as we held all catches (Unbelievable I know) except for a sitter at first slip (Sorry Rory).

Cooper (4) fresh off his record innings continued where he left off, smoking a four, but that was it for him as he found a fielder a few balls later. Josh (15 not out) batted sensibly for his runs, who was joined by Rory who took the attack to the bowlers scoring 28 off 13 balls, before being bowled by a delivery 'that did everything' which left James to block a few before Josh hit the winning runs in the 10th over.

The best part of the day was our own 5 a side match which saw Team Jacob stroll to victory over Team Rory.

Unfortunately, none of the results went our way so did not gain promotion as we had hoped, leaving us at 4th place in the division.
