Farnham I v Stansted Hall & Elsenham Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 29 Jul 2006 at 1.30
Stansted Hall & Elsenham Cricket Club Lost by 5 wickets
Match report
Hall made the long journey to Farnham in a game that both sides needed to win to improve their chances of survival. Not for he first time this season, Skipper Livings lost the toss, and Hall were asked to bat.
Hall were looking for a positive start from all batsmen, which Clappers took slightly the wrong way as he was run out within the first over as he set off for a single and was left only 10 yards short of the end he was running too. Jonesy joined Glassy at the crease, and the young lad from Bolton looked in superb form, mixing his textbook forward defensive with some well executed drives either side of the wicket. Glassy raced along to his 50 in super quick time and looked well set. Jonesy fell shortly after this, and the Skipper joined Glassy. Glassy continued stroking the ball around the park and when on 81, was superbly caught at mid wicket, when Jonesy’s league record could have looked in trouble. Unfortunately, things slowed up for Hall in the middle and the run rate dropped and Hall didn’t really use their long batting line up to its full potential. A flurry of quick wickets in the last ten overs, despite the Skipper’s 82, left Hall some 30 or 40 runs short of where they had hoped, as Hall were 248 for 7 from their 45 overs.
Best league tea of the season was consumed in double quick time, and Hall set out to the field in need of quick wickets. Willo claimed two early wickets, unusually actually bowling both out, and Hall made a reasonable start. Hallsy saw three catches go down off of his bowling, and if these catches were held, maybe it would have been a different game. The Skipper’s agreement with Pops to let him bowl if he batted 7, didn’t quite work, but the wily old off spinner did manage one dot ball in his mammoth two over spell. Reggie once again was in the wickets, but he did also receive a little bit of tap. Unfortunately for Hall, Farnham upped the run rate with some lusty blows and reached their target with just over two overs to spare.
