Stansted Hall & Elsenham Cricket Club 1st XI v Langley on Tue 16 May 2006 at 6.00
Stansted Hall & Elsenham Cricket Club Won 14 runs
Match report
The 1st round of the league cup brought Langley to the Hall for what turned out to be a great game all round. Cup captain Keefy won the toss and decided to bat, opening up with Heathy and Livings.
The openers put on a great stand of 120 odd in 11 overs which put Hall in a good position to post a big score. Heathy, after his career threatening bite, scoring 56 and Ben falling one short of his fifty, setting the platform for Hall. The Spoon then made a good contribution with the bat on his return, due to other commitments, ending up on 30 not out, with a cross batted six the highlight of that innings, for the usually very correct batsmen. Hall posted 197 for 3 off of their 20 overs.
A quick change around and into the field Hall went. Langley made a good start and were well up with the run rate. The introduction of Willo and Bousy brought three quick wickets and reduced the run rate slightly to put the tie into Hall's favour. Langley continued to chase the huge total, and some good hitting from Abrahams brought Langley very close. But thanks to some good fielding all round in the fading light, Langley fell 14 short with three wickets down, as play finished at 9pm. Special mention should go to David 'Blunder' Robinson and Robert Taylor who fielded superbly throughout and saved many boundaries.
