Match report The second round of the league cup drew Hall against Newport, for the fourth consecutive season. On a beautiful evening, Hall skipper Keefy won the toss and elected to bat.

Hall made a good start to their innings with Livings and Heathy putting on 43 for the first wicket. When Heathy was out caught, Bousy came into bat and picked up where he left off on Saturday, upping the run rate. Bousy was then run out due to a breakdown in communications and fell for 29. Willo and Flip-flop came in to give it a quick thrash, while Livings kept on piling on the runs. Livings finished on a fantastic 100 not out with some destructive hitting at the end of Hall’s innings. Hall ended up on 182 for 3.

A quick turn around, and Hall were into the field. Once again no early breakthrough was made, as openers Powell and Hill made a quick start and put Newport in a great position to chase down the target. Young Powell, who went on to make 80odd, was dropped in his 20’s, but made Hall pay with some lusty blows. Glassy bowled well again, taking two wickets to leave the tie nicely poised. Hallsy then chipped in with a wicket, and Newport required 9 off of the last over to win. This was then reduced to 4 to win off the last ball, and Newport achieved this, booking themselves a place in the next round of the cup.
