Stansted Hall & Elsenham Cricket Club 1st XI v Takeley on Sat 19 May 2007 at 1.30
Stansted Hall & Elsenham Cricket Club Won
Match report
Takeley skipper Connolly won the toss and elected to have a bowl first. Baloo and Glassy opened up and Baloo fell early on with 12 on the board for Hall. Jonesy then followed shortly after as Gunner and Coleman bowled good opening spells for Takeley. The Skipper and Glassy then steadied the ship for Hall and gradually increased the run rate before Glassy was bowled. Keefy joined Ben at the crease and they shared a 102 run partnership before the Skipper holed out at long off for 77. Hall continued building a total, Keefy making a good paced 54, but were perhaps 30 or 40 short of where they would have liked to be as they finished the innings on 237 for 6.
Jonesy's best contribution of the day was his Morrison's tea, before Hall took the field. Glassy claimed an early wicket with a fine yorker as Hall started in the field well. The introduction of Baloo then removed Sammons, 41, thanks to a good catch from Bousy, before Bousy came on to bowl and claimed two quick wickets. Connolly and Gillard then stood firm and took the attack to Hall and setting Takeley up with what at the time seemed an unlikely victory. Bousy then claimed his third wicket in his last over to leave the game nicely poised. Connolly, 80, and Gunn then continued to apply the pressure before both were removed and Takeley needed 12 from 12 balls. Another wicket fell, and 8 were needed to win from 2 balls. Baloo served up a leg side full toss which was then dispatched for 6, 2 to win from 1 ball. Takeley scampered one to leave Hall believing they had tied the game, only to find that they had won due to losing less wickets.
