Bishop's Stortford High School v Stansted Hall & Elsenham Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 21 Apr 2007 at 1.30
Stansted Hall & Elsenham Cricket Club Lost by 44 runs
Match report
Hall started the new season off in defeat against The Bishop's Stortford High School. Hall gave debut's to Mauley, Nicko and Woody.
After having instructions of an early meet, Reggie and his Stansted crew turned up over an hour late after their skipper's instructions as Hall experimented with some fielding practice before the game.
The High School batted first and Hall's fielding practice proved unsuccessful as opener McConnell was dropped twice off Woody within the first 6 overs, before he went on to make an excellent 132 with some good stroke play around the ground. Willo, Woody, Reggie and Glassy ended up wicketless although Glassy did send one of his own pupils to the floor with a sharp bouncer. Mauley temporarily topped the bowling averages on debut, before Chiser took Hall's second and last wicket of the innings. The High School finished up on 259 for 2 from their 40 overs with 7 catches being dropped in total and some pretty shoddy fielding from the Hall. Suncream was neglected by many of the fairer or lacking haired members of the side.
Tea passed and off Glassy and young Maule went to open the innings. Mauley fell early on before Nicko joined Glassy and shortly followed. The skipper entered the fray and put on a few with Glassy before Glassy tried to be a bit too greedy and was caught out. Ben and Keefy spent some good time in the middle before Keefy decided to limbo backwards down the track to the amusement of the onlooking followers. Keefy was bowled with 5 overs remaining as Hall finished up on 215 for 4 from their 40 overs.
