Stansted Hall & Elsenham Cricket Club 1st XI v High Roding II on Sat 03 May 2008 at 1:30
Stansted Hall & Elsenham Cricket Club Won by 137 runs
Match report
Hall's first home game of the season ended in a good start to the new league campaign. The ground looked fantastic on a good day for cricket. Hall had a couple of scares before the game with Keefy being hit in the nets and Ben complaining of a minor headache.
The early meet time was observed by most players, including the captain for now the second time in his long and illustrious career! Dawsy lost the toss and Hall were inserted. The two 'injured' players opened up and made a steady start before Keefy and then Doug fell into the trap of 'short-boundary-itus'. Ben making possibly his slowest 50 for the club was eventually joined by skipper Dawson with the pair sharing an unbroken stand of 177 runs to lead Hall to 276 for 2 with Ben finishing up on a magnificent 130 not out and Dawsy an important 59 not out.
Willo's tea seemed to be enjoyed by all with a vast selection of sandwiches.
Roding II's then set about chasing Hall's target and meady a steady, positive start with neither opening bowler making the breakthrough. The introduction of Baloo and Wazzer gave Hall their breakthrough with some quick wickets. Wickets then fell at regular intervals for Hall with one player foolish enough to take on Keefy's arm, which resulted in a long walk back to the pavillion. Hall eventually removed the tail, despite some stern resistance from the last pair.
26 points for Hall and a good start to the new campaign.
