White Roding C.C v Stansted Hall & Elsenham Cricket Club 1st XI on Thu 05 Jun 2008 at 6.00pm
Stansted Hall & Elsenham Cricket Club Won by 10 wickets
Match report
After beating High Roding in the earlier round, Hall travelled to their neighbours, White Roding for their next Davies Cup match. The game was finally played after three previous call off's. Not for the first time this season Ralph called incorrectly, lost the toss, but Hall were asked to have a bowl first.
Willo and Glassy opened up and started steadily, but made no breakthrough. Catches went down and Hall looked a bit lacklustre before Wazza grazing his knee seemed to inspire the team. After the openers hard work, Ralph and Baloo were brought into the attack and Baloo continued his fine form with the ball claiming four wickets in his first three overs, which included a double wicket maiden. Wazza took a fine catch on the boundary, despite his graze, which only confirmed his growing hero status. Ralph bowled tightly at the other end and nearly got a wicket in his first over had Willo not done an impression of Reggie and appear to be treading water whilst running to claim a catch. Ralph then claimed his three wickets in his final two overs with some tidy straight bowling.
A quick turn around and the usual opening pair were separated with Keefy spending some time on the naughty step to reflect on the Hall's fielding display. Jonesy and Benno struggled at first to get used to the speed of the wicket before Jonesy removed his bat from behind his pad to up the rate, eventually finishing up on 54 not out from 51 balls. Benno was 35 not out from 48 balls after a fine display of how to square cut over the ball. Despite not batting Glassy found his wall into the SHCC record books due to his fine padding up, which included a live demonstration on his forward defensive technique on numerous occasions.
Two games, two wins, next round at home to Hatfield Heath.
