Stansted Hall & Elsenham Cricket Club 1st XI v Willingale on Sat 15 Jul 2006 at 1.30
Stansted Hall & Elsenham Cricket Club Won by 8 wickets
Match report
On a glorious summer’s day, Hall welcomed the Gale to the Hall in a 52 pointer. Hall missing a number of key batsmen, were looking to get back to winning ways after a recent poor run of form.
Hall won the toss and the skipper’s choice to field first in the heat brought many groans among the elder statesmen of the side. With a dropped catch, some might say a dolly, coming in the second over, Hall were wondering if it was going to be one of those days, as the Gale raced along at 5 an over for the first ten overs. Seb’s long hop, superbly caught by the Snell, eventually broke the opening stand, and Glassy soon followed this up by removing the over opener twice in two balls. Glassy then claimed another wicket, before the Skipper brought himself on to bowl at the Gale youngsters, and eventually snared four wickets with his of non spinning off spin.
Reggie claimed a wicket in a good spell of bowling before Glassy claimed another and Rak claimed the last wicket as Gale were bowled out for 157.
Seb’s quantity, rather than quality tea, was surprisingly good, particularly his tarts.
Glassy was promoted to open up with Pops, as Hall set about their target in typically slow fashion. However, after some text book forward defences and leaves, Glassy soon started caressing the ball around the ground, sharing in an opening stand of 110. Pops then fell, and Glassy soon followed for a well worked 69. Livings and Keefy led the Hall home with over 10 overs to spare, to claim 26 points for the Hall.
