Hockerill I v Stansted Hall & Elsenham Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 20 May 2006 at 1.30
Match was Abandoned
Match report
An abandoned game with victory so close was the outcome of this rain-affected tie for Hall. Skipper Livings finally winning a toss this season elected to have a bowl on a damp, green track.
His decision was immediately justified with Willo clean bowling the Hockerill captain with the first ball of the game. Seb followed this up with a wicket in his first over from the other end to get Hall off to a great start. Willo eventually returned 3-20 from his ten overs, which resulted in his bowling boot falling apart half way through his spell. Hall kept Hockerill well contained and another great spell of bowling from Glassy claimed him another 3 wickets. Dawsy chipped in with the two other wickets for Hall. There were some good catches held by Hallsy and Jonesy, but Seb's defied all expectations as he held onto a fantastic catch. Skipper Livings tried to repeat this but his superman impression left him some two foot away from the landing ball. Sensible batting from Hockerill's last pair got them to a total of 152 for 9.
A fantastic tea was enjoyed in the interval and then off Hall went to chase down the total. Hockerill started very well, bowling tightly, but then Bren and Jonesy saw of the new ball and started to build. Three quick wickets fell for Hall, with Bren standing firm, and then in the middle of Hall's innings, the first rain interruption happened. The players came off and then went back on almost immediately with rain still in the air, and Bren and Keefy were closing in on victory. The players than came off and went back on twice more, and the game was abandoned with Hall 23 runs short. Heathy batted superbly and was well set for his first ton of the season, finishing on 86 not out.
