Stansted Hall & Elsenham Cricket Club 1st XI v Takely on Sat 24 Jun 2006 at 1.30
Stansted Hall & Elsenham Cricket Club Won by 2 wickets
Match report
Not for the first time this season, Hall lost the toss, and were put into the field on another hot Saturday afternoon. Hall welcomed back a number of players who had not been available over the last few weeks, but were still missing a few regulars.
Hallsy claimed an early breakthrough, removing the Takeley opener with a full toss, and things started well for Hall on a track that favoured the batting side. A good third wicket stand developed for Takeley, before the Spoon claimed a wicket with his ‘quicker one’. Wickets were also claimed by Willo, Bousy and Seb, but once again, Hall’s catching let them down, and cost them a number of runs. Pops, after starting magnificently in the field, claimed two catches, but dropped three, claiming he was being followed by a horse fly, which distracted him. Takeley’s last pair to bat put on a lot of quick runs in the last few overs, particularly enjoying Willo’s half volleys. Takeley finished on 247-5.
The Skippers tea was enjoyed by all, and Hall set about chasing their target slowly. Takeley made regular breakthrough’s and only Pops troubled the scorers from the top 6, with 37. Hall slumped to 115-7, with batting points looking the best option at the time. However a partnership of 116 runs in 12 overs swung the game into Hall’s favour with Danish and Willo crashing the ball to all parts of the ground. Willo was eventually caught on the boundary with four overs to go for 53. Danish was joined by Hallsy who played and missed at a few but kept Hall in the hunt. Hall eventually won off the last ball of the match, Danish claiming the two required. Danish finished on a magnificent 81 not out, to put last week’s four ball duck behind him. Hall finished on 248-8, and after last week’s disappointment against Ilford, are back to winning ways.
