Nazeing Common v Stansted Hall & Elsenham Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 28 Apr 2007 at 1.30
Stansted Hall & Elsenham Cricket Club Lost by 32 runs
Match report
Third preseason game for the Hall, and unfortunately third loss. Hall won the toss, and the skipper's evening meal out had only something slightly to do with the fact that Hall fielded first in the balzing sunshine.
After a vigorous warm up led by the skipper, Hall got off to a great start when the first legitimate ball of the game claimed a wicket with Glassy having Johnson caught at short cover by Danish. Clappers and Keefy both 'pinged' their quads within the opening overs but managed to go along with their business quietly. Willo then claimed his first wicket of the new season before goldenarm was brought into the attack. This proved a good decision as three quick wickets fell to golden, including the wicket of Ronaldon who insisted on running down the track and kicking the ball. The skipper then had a bowl and was wicketless before Snell and Woody were introduced into the attack. Snell's second ball produced a wicket with his half tracker pee-rolling to hit middle stump. Snell's continued to terrorise the young Nazeing tail but staring angrily at not one, but two under 16's. Woody claimed his first wicket for the club and bowled with good rhythm before running out one of the tail. Hall's bowling and fielding was much improved as they dismissed Nazeing for 192.
Top tea was enjoyed by all, and the skipper opened up as he had to leave early. His early flurry or runs was shortlived, and Clappers shortly followed. Jonesy, Danish and Glassy all made starts, but never went on. The Hall's tail did not wag as Edwards claimed the final 7 wickets, as Hall disappointingly fell 32 runs short.
