Birchanger I v Stansted Hall & Elsenham Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 31 May 2008 at 1:30
Stansted Hall & Elsenham Cricket Club Won by 98 runs
Match report
After a week of intensive rain it was not surprising to see a really wet wicket at changer.Once again Ralph called wrong and we were stuck in on a track that resembled rolled mud.Thats no criticism of the changer effort as they had done well to get a game on at all.Benno and Keefey started what appeared to be slowly but as the game progressed it became a more and more important partnership .Then Benno went from 1st gear to 8th in a couple of balls clouting poor lol ahmed (who looked suicidal)for a six and then lobbed the next one to long on trying the same feat !!!Jonesy decided to see if the score could actually go down if you pad it away enough before balloo and ralph knocked a dull run a ball to leave us on 208 for 4 with benno 60 and keefey 75..both knocks turning out to be MASSIVE in the context of the game.It was confusing from the side to watch Ager bowl slower than spoon and not get any tap.Changer thought that they may be in the game but tight bowling from reggie and bolton put them under pressure from the start. The introduction of balloo the ripping off spinner then ripped out the heart of changer to the point that their skipper could not be bothered to play a shot at a ball 18 inches outside off stump ...which ripped back and bowled him .(sorry ross we have all been there).changer lost their way and we had our fifth straight win in the league .
balloo ending up with 5 for 34 ...very impressive....tragically the game was marred by the death of tayls legendary batsman status as having watched the ball get stuck in the mud for 30 odd overs he stepped back first ball had a huge launch and was trimmed up ....the game stopped for a minutes silence or rather abject confusion...tayls and woody had taken a couple of snorting catches previously which also need a mention ....bring on the beach!!!!!!!!!
