Matching Green I v Stansted Hall & Elsenham Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 21 Jun 2008 at 1:30
Stansted Hall & Elsenham Cricket Club Won by 10 wickets
Match report
With the weather suggesting that no cricket would be played anywhere in the UK, Hall got back to winning ways with a comprehensive 10 wicket win over Matching Green.
Hall, except Ralph who only lives 4 miles down the road, turned up before the opposition and all listened on as Reggie told his tale of road rage on his way over to the game. 1.20pm came and the opposition broke into their own pavillion to allow the teams to change.
Hall fielded first and started well. Glassy's first 4 overs all being maidens, and self proclaimed 'team player' Reggie, who wasn't in Malaga this week, also bowled tightly, as they kept the score down to 15 from the first 10 overs. Glassy made a breakthrough which brought S Hartnell to the crease, who eventually went on to make 73. The introduction of Harv's after his strenuous week at work, I mean Ascot, brought two wickets in his first over, both caught by a shocked Glassy. The Hartnell brothers then put on a good partnership before S ran M out. MGCC continued upping the run rate as Hall fielded very poorly not for the first time this season as players looked scared of the ball and some even developed gaping holes in their body. Sebby came on and cleaned up the tail with 4 quick wickets at the end after recovering from his earlier incident where he stopped the ball with his moobs! MGCC were all out for 166.
A good tea was enjoyed although the use of 4 tea bags for 22 players ensured the players drank what looked like dish water.
Keefy and Ben opened up yet again and started steadily, seeing off a few early balls that popped on them, reaching 34 off 10. Both men remained unbeaten, scoring 136 off the next 18 overs to lead Hall to victory. 'Team player' Kray had a little sulk umpiring for one over longer than he thought he should, but apart from that the highlight for the padded up batsman was hearing of Willo's stories of his XBox and Seb's exploits in the lift.
26 points and an evening was enjoyed at the Chequers.
