Bishop's Stortford College 1st XI v Stansted Hall & Elsenham Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 19 Apr 2008 at 2.00

Match report
New season, new captain, last season's weather! Hall started the new season off with a friendly against Bishop's Stortford College 1st XI on a cold, drizzly afternoon.
Hall were in the field first and started off well with some tight bowling but no breakthrough was made until Glassy came into the action as he soon removed the College openers in fairly quick succession. Young Paddy McGurk got his first 1st team bowl and impressed with some good seam bowling, claiming his first scalp of the season which should have been two had Willo not 'lost the ball' when it was on it's way to him at first slip. The College gradually upped the run rate throughout their innings but some new fieling technique's demonstrated by Woody and everyone's ability to outpace Reggie to the ball on numerous occasions helped keep the college total down. Dawsy got himself a wicket on his return and played a big part in a run out removing the backing up batsman Parker much to the young batsan's anger! Woody also claimed a wicket as the College finished up on 210 for 6 from 40 overs which seemed to take hours to complete.
Tea was enjoyed by all but Hall's chase was halted by further drizzling. Eventually both teams took the field for 20 overs before proceedings were halted with continuous drizzle and fading light. Keefy hit a run-a-ball 46 whilst Seb amused all with his running between wickets which involved him running half way to the strikers end, slipping onto his back, getting up all flustered with his non-tie-up trousers falling down to his knees. How he didn't get run out is a mystery.
On to Nazeing next week with Captain Dawson seemingly pleased with how things went first up.
