Nazeing Common v Stansted Hall & Elsenham Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 26 Apr 2008 at 2.00
Stansted Hall & Elsenham Cricket Club Won by 4 wickets
Match report
Hall's afternoon started off well with Skipper Dawson arriving at the meet point on time for the first time in the club's history. The convoy made it's way over to Nazeing on a good afternoon for cricket.
Hall won the toss and elected to field first and with only one change from the previous week's fixture, Willo and Reggie opened the bowling once again and started Hall off well as they reduced the visitors to 13 for 4, Willo claiming three scalps, one of which was very well caught by Reggie. Nazeing slowly rebuilt their innings from Sturdy snr and Crowley, before Woody got a bit excitable and beamed Sturds who had to go off retired. Thankfully no serious damage was done to Sturds, and it actually allowed Woody to find his line and length. An increasingly purple Seb bowled ten good overs up the hill and was rewarded with a wicket at the end of the spell. This brought Barker to the wicket who dispatched the ball to all parts, taking a particular liking to young Paddy in what wasn't the best of days for him. Barker fired a quickfire hundred with some huge sixes as Nazeing finished up on 212 for 5. Hall fielded well throughout with Flip-flip hoping that Bob Wilson was onlooking with some great pushes round the post! And Woody deciding hands are better than ankles when stopping oncoming drives.
A great tea and Paddy was in the action again, covering new vice captain Jonesy in tea. Keefy and Ben went about the chase in good fashion, scoring steadily with Keefy reaching his 50 first, despite cramping up after two overs, obviously after his vigorous bowling warm-up which was largely ignored. Both fell in quick succession, but scored at a good rate, Keefy falling to a good catch and Ben running himself out. Jonesy made a welcome return with his new bat and scored exactly 50 before falling in the last over. Hall required three of the last over and reached their target with two balls to go, Paddy controversially involved as substitute fielder.
A good team performance from the Hall in preparation for the first league game of the season.
