Stansted Hall & Elsenham Cricket Club 2nd XI v Hockerill II on Sat 12 Sep 2020 at 1pm
Stansted Hall & Elsenham Cricket Club Won by 85 runs
Match report
An entertaining match at the Hall, saw the 2s take on Hockerill 2s. A dry batting pitch with not much to give for the bowlers, saw Fitzy choose to bat first. Will and Tom opened the batting and some good early hitting saw us on 61-0 off of 10 overs, unfortunately an excellent delivery from the young Hockerill bowler beat Tom, and we were 1 wicket down. Next in was Fitzy who seems to class himself as more of a batsman these days, reminiscing on his 118 last year against Epping. Unfortunately he was bowled not too long after. Digger was next in, but was bowled after putting on a 74 run partnership with Will. Fitzy retired Will on 119, after Will beat Fitzy's PB, apparently bitterness struck! Josh Gleeson was stumped later on after adding runs, Peter Page got a first ball duck trying to hit his first ball for 6, then some good batting by Charlie and Patrick at the end added some more to the total. We finished on 251-5. Dave and Morgan opened the bowling excellently, with our opponents being stuck on 11-0 after 10 overs, some great fielding from both us and their umpire seemingly too! Not much happened until drinks, with our opponents on 59-1 after 20 overs. Hockerill started to hit runs faster, however were never really threatening to chase the score. Matt Fuller and Peter Page both bowled well, Digger and Josh bowled their first spells this season too. Charlie Turner starred at the end bowling to a field consisting of 5 slips, a gully and a backward point for 5 overs, i don't recall that long wall of people actually being able to stop the ball once! Tom bowled at the end too, and very nearly had a hat-trick with the last 3 balls of the innings, on the final ball he bowled to a field consisting of: 5 slips, a gully, a backward point, a silly mid-on and a silly mid-off. At the end Hockerill finished on 166-8, it was a great match and both teams had lots of fun. It's fantastic being able to banter with another club without them taking it personally!
