Match report
Well done to everyone who played yesterday & thank you to those that helped out and supported. It was great to see such determination in the field - we kept our heads up which contributed to getting 4 late wickets & secure the extra 2 bowling points we thoroughly deserved.
It was a tough game. We elected to bat first but were up against some very economical Nazeing bowling. We only scored 39 from our first 20 overs. Our strong mid-order batting didn’t come off as we wanted, but was ably supported by David Tilman which helped to set a target we could bowl at. We did very well to make 144 from there but another 30-40 runs would have created scoreboard pressure & may have seen us over the line. More singles & putting pressure on the fielders could have changed things. Performances of note were Josh Gleeson (29) & Peter Page (25). Gus was very unlucky with his run out - he was hitting the ball very well.
We were very good in the field. Everyone bowled well and I am convinced that with our bowling attack we will be competitive in all games this season. Star bowler was Frances who bowled an excellent line & constantly troubled the batters. She fully deserved her wicket which capped off her fine performance (6.3-4-18-1). Three consecutive maidens (& a wicket maiden in her second spell) really built the pressure. Josh bowled exceptionally well & nearly helped us pull off what would have been a remarkable result had we have continued to bowl so tightly. Unfortunately I bowled one over too many (6-0-31-2) - we were still in the game until that point. Peter Page bowled a great over (1 for 1) and but for circumstances would have bowled more. He kept very well as well. Thank you to Kevin for sharing the gloves.
It was an enjoyable game, once again played in great spirit. Bonus points always prove crucial in defeat and I am very pleased we managed to gain the two bowling points in the later overs.
