1st XI chase 280 to win crucial match

04 Aug 2018

On yet another boiling day, Rory won the toss and surprised some by electing to bowl (blame Mohsin and Raja for leaving early). Some loose early bowling led to Woodford reaching 97/0 from the first 19 overs (Raja eventually remembered how to bowl to get 9 overs 0/44). Rory decided to bring himself and immediately made the breakthrough. Rory continued to chip away at the Woodford order and ended with figures of 9 overs 3/33, however, the other end struggled to contain the Woodford batsman, as the away team looked set for a score of over 300. Some good death bowling form Mohsin and Charlie meant the Hall had a stiff chase of 280 to win.

As previously mentioned, Mohsin and Raja were jumping ship early, so opened together. They got off to a quick start, but both fell cheaply leaving the Hall 43/2. Jimmy came and went quickly and this brought Tom and Rory to the crease, needing a big partnership to get the Hall back into the game. Both batted beautifully to take the Hall to 194. Rory hit 73 off 47 and Tom a more measured 65 off 85. Both eventually departed in quick succession and left Josh P, Josh B and Ollie P to knock off the remaining runs.

A huge win in the context of the league and a great performance from all. Bring on Hatfield Heath next week.
