Stansted Hall & Elsenham Cricket Club 1st XI v Hockerill I on Sat 22 Jul 2006 at 1.30
Stansted Hall & Elsenham Cricket Club Won by 7 wickets
Match report
Hockerill visited the Hall on Saturday in a mid table battle, with Hall starting the day one point above their local rivals. Once again, the Skipper lost the toss and Hall were asked to field on what appeared to be another scorching afternoon.
Hall started brightly in the field and new ball bowlers Hallsy and Willo both struck early into the Hockerill innings. Hallsy then claimed another wicket with a well thought out long hop that was caught at backward square. The introduction of Glassy brought another wicket as Hockerill’s top four were out within the first 16 overs. Hockerill then stabilised their innings and began to build a useful partnership before Reggie claimed the first of his four wickets for the days. A few useful cameo’s were made from Hockerill’s lower order who particularly enjoyed Reggie’s half-trackers, as they raced past the two hundred mark. Glassy came back to claim another wicket thanks to a superb one handed diving catch by Clayts jnr behind the stumps, and Hallsy eventually wrapped things up to deservedly claim three wickets himself. Hockerill were all out for 250 in the 44th over.
Hallsy and Grandma made a great tea, and the French stick option proved to be approved by all. Pops and Glassy opened up for the second week running and things started well with Pops crashing the ball through the covers from the first ball of the game. However, his stay was short lived as he was caught behind three balls later. Jonesy joined Glassy and Hall continued to score runs at a steady rate, and a good partnership was brought to an end as Jonesy was fantastically caught by Hockerill youngster Layer, who had already scored 60 odd not out and claimed the wicket of Pops. Glassy then soon followed as he tamely chased a wide long hop and was caught at back point. At 67 for 3, Hall need to build a partnership, and that’s exactly what they did. Livings and Keefy started nudging the ball around sensibly, forcing the odd boundary. Both reached their 50’s within an over of one another, before both upped the pace a little to lead Hall to victory with two and a half overs to spare. Both played chanceless knocks and finished with Ben on 99 not out and Keefy with 76 not out.
