Stansted Hall & Elsenham Cricket Club 1st XI v Rickling Ramblers I on Sat 05 Aug 2006 at 1.30
Stansted Hall & Elsenham Cricket Club Won by 8 wickets
Match report
Top of the table Rickling were the visitors to the Hall. The Skipper’s coin flipping meant Rickling lost the toss, and Livings decided to ask Rickling to bat first on an unusually green track.
The Skipper’s decision was justified as Willo removed both openers within the first ten overs for not many. Hallsy bowled well at the other end without a wicket, as Hall made a good start. To protect his reasonable figures, Willo decided his foot hurt and cried off to field at slip for the afternoon. Rickling then built a useful third wicket partnership with Glassy and Bousy not making a breakthrough. Reggie was introduced to take a wicket, and that’s just what he did, five times infact! His ‘slower’ slow ball snared all five batsmen, three being well caught at deep long on by Clappers, and other catches being held by Glassy and Livings. Glassy then claimed a run out with a direct hit from just inside the boundary. Rickling finished up on 219 for 8, a score that Hall were more than happy with.
Pops’ cold sausage based tea showed yet another alternative way of feeding 22 players, although it was noted that his scones were minus cream. Clappers and Glassy then set about chasing down the target in good fashion, and scored at a good rate. A partnership of 79 was formed in the first 20 overs before Clappers was adjudged LBW. Jonesy, short of form lately, joined Glassy at the wicket, and these two batted superbly together. Glassy continued his rich vein of form and fell for 67 after putting on 90 odd with Jonesy for the second wicket, in 13 overs. The Skipper joined Jonesy at the crease, both playing sensibly, but Jonesy’s straight six was enjoyed by all onlookers. These two stayed together to lead Hall to victory with 5 overs to spare.
