Stansted Hall & Elsenham Cricket Club 2nd XI v Newport II on Sat 09 Jun 2007 at 1.30
Stansted Hall & Elsenham Cricket Club Won by 8 wickets
Match report
This was the 2s first real test and our batsmen rose to the task beautifully.
Newport batted first and two early wickets put the Hall on top. Jamie Halls bowled very well with good pace and was rewarded when Dennison shouldered arms to a ball that, to his great surprise, took his off stump out of the ground. Ross laird bowled well as well but, as is often the way with cricket, got Wilson with his first bad ball. A stunning one handed catch with both feet off the ground by Adam Laird gave his brother his second wicket and Newport looked in trouble. Ross' third came from a plum LBW and Newport were 25-4. Baker and Dann steadied the ship and played some lovelly strokes but Holland and Marshall took the pace off the ball and they both eventually fell. Chiser then cleaned up the tail with some good accurate bowling at the death. The pick of his 3 wickets being the caught and bowled to close the innings. The ball was hit very hard and it was purer reflex.
After a Marshy tea Browny and Kevin set off in chase of a below par target. Kevin provided the anchor whilst Tony hit some classy boundries. He fell for 27, bringing together father and son. Jack took over Browny's role as aggressor and twice clearing the long-on boundry with ease off Wilson (the first of which neatly picked out a Newport girl Jack had been eying up during the tea interval, coincidence?). The two batted on chancelessly to within 6 of victory when Jack fell to Fairweather.
