Stansted Hall & Elsenham Cricket Club 2nd XI v Stansted II on Sat 05 May 2007 at 1.30
Stansted Hall & Elsenham Cricket Club Won by 6 wickets
Match report
If the Hall thought they had found little opposition last Sunday, then Stansted provided even less in a very one sided match. Seb and Woody produced some great pace and blew them away, in fact neither Ayers or Lairdy (keeping wicket) saw his second ball with 4 byes the result. Ian did keep wicket well though. Seb twice knocked middle stump out of the ground and an in-swinging beauty meant he was on a hatrick. Browny was as tight as ever and Chiser's diving caught and bowled was inspirational. The fielding all-round was of the highest order after a good bit of pre-match practise led by Nige. Liam was unlucky not to have picked up a few more wickets as edges fell into gaps. Woody took over from the Pavilion End after Seb and blew through the tail. Stansted had 5 or 6 under 16s playing and they were no match for his pace and bounce. Lairdy then decided he wanted some spin into the attack and brought on Adam who got a wicket first ball as leggy chipped a ball straight into the calm hands of Seb at mid-wicket. With Ross due to replace Woody the next over Adam then took the last wicket as a firm hit drive was caught, one handed, superbly at a deepish mid-of by Adam Curtis.
After an excellent Browny Tea, Hall set of in pursuit of 99. Dinners hit a nice 4 but then played a horrid shot and was clean bowled. This brought Ross Laird to the wicket who, after a few streaky 4s behind square against a good opening attack, played some lovely shots. Meanwhile at the other end, Adam Curtis never looked troubled and sailed through to a chanceless 45. He and Ross fell to catches and it took the steady hand of Nige to guide the Seconds to a comprehensive victory.
If availability stays good then this really could be Stansted Hall's year.
