Super Cooper Blasts Record 235*

26 Aug 2017

After electing to bat first due to how flat the wicket looked (as always), the seconds got off to a solid start with Josh Gleeson looking good, but unfortunately departing in the seventh over for 21. What followed was brutal to say the least... Jason used his years of wisdom to accumulate 55 and feed the strike to JC, who looked like he could bat all day - hitting to all parts. After Mark West sitting in his pads for about twenty overs he eventually entered the crease in the final over for the departing Matt Sporle - 52, by which time James Cooper had hit a record-breaking 235* (23 fours, 10 sixes). It's fair to say he didn't miss a beat, but probably felt a little leggy the next day. After the 45 overs we finished on 383-3.

The fielding innings was played in good spirit, despite some being happier than others at the days football scores. Highlights of which included Kieran shouting "CATCH!" before Fitzy took a dolly, and the former also being pestered around the field by flies and bees. Eventually with 157 on the score board we took the final wicket in the 43rd over, much to the relief of Kieran and skipper, who wanted nothing to do with bowling duties. Too much like hard work! Peter Fitzpatrick with his usual economical figures of 10-6-14-3

After the game had finished a few cold ones were shared to celebrate a handsome win! The day was indeed perfect and the first team also completed an emphatic W to keep promotion hopes alive. Hopefully the final games will be a fitting end to a very enjoyable season!
